Welcome to the January edition of your behind-the-scenes MLP team update.
From meeting celebrities and a silent retreat to top-level investment management meetings and a football match in Italy, the team has been as busy as ever!
Read on to catch up on all the latest updates.
Our business is having a makeover
After 42 years, MLP is evolving, and we’ve got some exciting news that’s been under wraps for the past year…
We’re rebranding! And that’s just the beginning; there’s much more to come, all of which will be revealed soon.
We recently spent an afternoon filming reels that will be part of our new look, and we even caught some behind-the-scenes moments as well as some hilarious outtakes.
Keep an eye on this space and on Seán’s LinkedIn to catch all our updates.
We work with the best
We recently met with the team at Tatton Investment Management, including the Founder and CIO and his senior managers, who together oversee £23.4 billion.
Yes, you read that correctly: £23.4 billion.
At MLP, awards, client experience, and visibility all matter, but only if they lead to better advice and real value for our clients.
Meetings like this show how we do that. Size alone doesn’t guarantee quality, so we research, ask tough questions, and get to know the people behind the money.
It was reassuring to see that Tatton’s ethos mirrors ours, as they:
Focus on consistent returns
Don’t sell short-term performance
Remain humble and honest about mistakes.
Some of their views on the current state of affairs include:
The AI boom echoes the dot-com era, but still has room to run
Big names remain profitable, smaller ones less so
Bonds now offer more attractive yields
Alternatives, including hedge fund strategies, help diversify and reduce reliance on shares and bonds.
Meetings like this help ensure our advice stays thoughtful and independent, and that we can guarantee our clients that we only work with the very best.
Seán and Paul visited the Shard (for a business meeting)
Seán and Paul recently attended a buyers and sellers event at the Shard, hosted by Foresight Group.
It was a fantastic opportunity to meet like-minded people, network, and discuss potential acquisitions in one of the world’s most iconic buildings.
Both Seán and Paul came away inspired, and they’re already looking forward to attending more events like this in the future!
Happy birthday to Paul and Leigh!
This month, we celebrated two birthdays!
First up, we surprised Leigh with a cake, a card, and a balloon.
Leigh is passionate, strong-willed, and incredibly hard-working. Her energy, drive, and dedication add enormous value to the team. In short, she’s exceptional at what she does and a joy to work with!
We also celebrated Paul’s birthday this month. Paul is one half of the directing team at MLP, and without him, we simply wouldn’t exist!
We showed our appreciation for Paul with the usual gifts, cake, and card. Judging by the bottle of whiskey we gave him, it looks like he won’t be doing Dry January!
Here’s to another month of celebrating the people who make our business thrive.
Seán visited Italy and met a famous face on the way
Over the holidays, Seán took his family to Italy, where he had a special father-son moment watching Juventus play. It was a perfect, Christmas-time reminder of how much he loves sharing passions with his son, and the importance of making time for those who matter most in our lives.
And as if the trip couldn’t get more memorable, Seán bumped into ex-UFC fighter Michael Bisping, Britain’s first-ever UFC champion!
Seán was sure to grab a selfie with a legend who certainly knows a thing or two about seizing life’s opportunities.
No phones, no talking, and limited food for Seán as he went on retreat
Seán also recently spent a week on retreat and went the full seven days with no phone, no talking, and no distractions.
Food was also restricted to two meals a day and nothing after 1 pm. His days were filled with meditation, early morning wakeups at 5.45 am, and lessons from wise teachers.
While Seán admits that day one was challenging as boredom crept in, his mind wandered, and he found himself thinking eagerly about his family, he soon got into the swing of things and found the experience completely transformative.
The lessons he took away were clear:
Happiness comes from within
You don’t need much to be satisfied
Slow down and rest, as too much energy is wasted unnecessarily.
The retreat left Seán healthier, more grounded, and more focused. It sharpened not just his mindset, but also his ability to be a better business leader, mentor, brother, father, and friend.
Leigh went to the Dominican Republic
Over Christmas, Leigh spent two wonderful weeks in the Dominican Republic with her daughter and partner, enjoying a perfect mix of relaxation and adventure.
Highlights included a boat trip to the beautiful Saona Island, ziplining through the treetops, and a visit to Monkey Land, where the monkeys happily joined them for photos.
The standout moment was celebrating her daughter’s 13th birthday at the largest water park in the Caribbean, which was an unforgettable way to mark the occasion.
A fantastic break full of sunshine, fun and great memories before returning to winter back home.
See you next time!
We hope you’ve enjoyed reading about what the MLP team has been up to. Look out for our next update coming soon.
