MLP update: From podcast appearances to another industry award, it’s been a big month!

Welcome to the December edition of your behind-the-scenes MLP team update.

From sponsoring our local Christmas lights and featuring on the Citywire podcast to hosting a wine night and celebrating birthdays, the team has been as busy as ever!

Read on to catch up on all the latest updates.

We spread some festive cheer in our local community

At this year’s Banstead Village Christmas Lights event, we served up a grand total of 45 bottles of mulled wine and 17 packets of mince pies! It’s safe to say both the festive spirit and appetite were strong that evening...

We’re proud to contribute to the Christmas lights every year, and sponsoring the much-loved village tradition is just one way we like to give back to the community around us.

Supporting our local community has always been a core part of who we are and what we do, and this event was a brilliant reminder of why we do it.

A big thank you to the whole MLP team for making it happen and to all the lovely people who stopped to have a drink, a nibble, and a chat!

We enjoyed tapas and a round of golf at the Christmas do

To round off the year, the MLP team headed to London for our Christmas do.

The evening started with tapas before moving on to a competitive (and entertaining) round of Junkyard Golf.

As is now our tradition, there was also a Christmas jumper competition. This year, Harry took home the trophy, and Sue bravely relinquished her title.

It was a great night with plenty of laughs, and it was the perfect way to celebrate another successful year together.

Seán is on Spotify

Seán recently achieved one of his dreams and is now recorded on Spotify!

While you won’t be hearing him sing anytime soon, he joined Julian Bovill on the Citywire podcast to share the MLP story and discuss:

  • Investing in young people

  • The future of financial advice

  • How MLP is using AI

  • What regulatory changes mean for the industry

  • Why culture and teamwork are the heart of a successful firm

  • What clients are really worried about, and what they want.

Seán was keen to emphasise that there has never been a better time to be part of the financial sector, and that MLP is leading the way in work culture, client services, and AI innovation in the industry.

A big thank you to Julian Bovill and the Citywire team for hosting Seán.

Another award nomination for MLP!

We’re delighted to share that we’ve been named a finalist for Adviser Firm of the Year in the South East at the Professional Adviser Awards.

This recognition reflects years of hard work from Seán, Paul, and the entire MLP team.

Seeing that effort acknowledged is both motivating and humbling, and it’s great that our hard work isn’t going unnoticed.

These awards and this recognition inspire us to push even further, and this is only the beginning. We will continue to develop our business and offer the best experience for our clients as well as our employees.

Beaujolais Day at MLP Wealth!

We recently celebrated the wine festival Beaujolais Nouveau Day in true French style, complete with berets, stripey jumpers, and moustaches.

We hosted a wine evening for clients, bringing a touch of Beaujolais to Banstead. To make the night special, we brought together:

  • A top wine expert (alias Pierre) guiding guests through every glass

  • Wines curated with our partners at Banstead Vintners

  • Fresh canapés prepared on-site by a chef

  • A warm, relaxed atmosphere in the MLP office, giving clients space to connect with each other and the team.

Evenings like this show what our client-first approach looks like in practice. Not only is it good for business, but it also makes what we do meaningful and builds a sense of community.

A huge thank you to all the clients who joined us, Tim Killen (Pierre) for his wine explanations (and questionable French accent), Banstead Vintners for the exceptional bottles, and the whole MLP team for organising a fantastic evening.

Happy birthday to Katie and Sue!

We’ve had not one, but two birthdays to celebrate recently.

First, happy birthday to Katie Ross!

Katie only joined us in April, but she’s settled into the team so well that it feels like we’ve known her for years.

For part of her birthday month, Katie went on a short trip to Marbella with her family, hoping to catch some winter sun. Although it rained for much of the trip, it was still a great opportunity to spend quality time together, with plenty of sangria enjoyed and paella eaten along the way!

Katie’s hardworking, great fun, and a brilliant team player. We just hope that the gin we gifted her didn’t disappear too quickly!

And a huge happy birthday to Sue Chennell, who will mark an incredible 25 years with MLP next year, which is longer than anyone else on the team!

Sue’s dedication and hard work over the years have been invaluable, and we hope she enjoys a well-deserved birthday trip.

Here’s to both of you!

We’re now trained baristas!

The MLP team recently completed Barista training, adding one more reason why we’re not your ordinary advisers.

Believe it or not, this ties in directly with three of our core values:

  • Client first – We want every client to have a genuine wow experience the moment they walk through the door, including what we proudly call the best coffee in town.

  • Promote happiness – It was great fun and full of laughter.

  • Collaboration – It brought the team together, with plenty of hands-on learning and quality time.

And who knew just how much there is to master? Temperature, timing, weight, grind coarseness, coffee type, milk-frothing ratios…

It’s both an art and a science, and we’re ready for your order!

See you next time!

We hope you’ve enjoyed reading about what the MLP team has been up to. Look out for our next update coming soon.
