Welcome to the February edition of your behind-the-scenes MLP team update.
From enjoying escape rooms at our quarterly social and appearing on podcasts to smashing our targets and searching for new talent, the team has been as busy as ever!
Read on to catch up on all the latest updates.
We held the famous MLP quarterly social in an escape room
We recently went out for the famous MLP quarterly social, which this time we held in an escape room. While we were unsure at first, it quickly turned into one of our most memorable team events yet.
We split into two groups, and it’s safe to say that none of us had any idea what we were doing! For the first few minutes, clues were missed, theories went nowhere, and it felt like we might never make it out.
But slowly, things started to click. By working together and leaning on each other’s strengths, we began to make progress.
While we slightly ran over our allotted time slot, we eventually escaped in time for our dinner booking, where we were able to debrief and unwind together.
When you’re working hard every day, moments like this are a reminder of how important it is to recharge and simply enjoy each other’s company. It’s great to be part of such a wonderfully talented team that enjoys spending time together both in and outside the office.
A big thank you to Katie Ross for organising the evening, with support from Leigh Loney, and to everyone who made it such a brilliant night!
We achieved our targets… and then some
In our business plan, we set ourselves a target to reach £225,000,000 in assets under management by March 2026.
Now that we’re approaching the deadline, we’re happy to say we’ve well exceeded our target.
Today, we manage over £250,000,000 on behalf of our clients, with more exciting developments already in the pipeline (watch this space).
Not all that long ago, our assets under management were closer to £20 million, and we’re so proud of the growth we’ve seen in recent years.
While it’s never just about the numbers, moments like this are a reminder to pause and appreciate the journey.
Our next targets are to:
Become nationally recognised
Reach £1 billion in assets under management.
But what really drives us isn’t the numbers. At heart, our goals are about:
Spreading financial peace of mind
Ensuring clients are at the heart of everything we do
Delivering the best advice possible to help others feel confident about their future.
So, be ambitious with your goals because often the only thing holding you back is setting the target too low.
Seán was a hit on the FT Adviser podcast
Seán recently joined the FT Adviser podcast, hosted by Amy Austin alongside Toby Bentley. He discussed what 2026 might look like for financial advice and why ongoing uncertainty is changing the role advisers play.
The next few years are likely to feel financially uncomfortable for many, as we’re seeing:
Higher taxes
Higher costs
Greater complexity.
The UK is facing its highest tax burden since the second world war, with £26 billion of tax increases announced in the most recent Budget.
During the discussion, Seán spoke about the current financial climate and said:
“All of this leads to more uncertainty. And whilst that’s not a great thing in life, for an adviser, it means we can add a lot more value.”
The conversation also explored topics ranging from AI in the financial planning sector and the importance of human connection to work culture and why now is the best time to become an adviser.
The podcast is now live, and you can listen to it here.
Do you want to work with us?
There’s a big problem in the financial planning sector, and not enough people are talking about it.
The average age of a financial adviser is now around 59, and about 50% are considering retirement within the next 5–10 years.
At the same time, the need for financial advice has never been higher. Yet there are only around 28,000 advisers in the UK.
This means two things:
We need to bring more people into the profession
We need to better support the people already in it.
At MLP, we offer fully supported roles alongside development opportunities and career progression. We aim to provide a clear pathway and the support our employees need to thrive.
So, whether you or someone you know is interested in building a career in the financial planning sector, we’re always interested to hear from prospective colleagues, whether they want to become:
An adviser
A paraplanner
An administrator.
If you’re interested in a role with real purpose, or you’re already in financial services and looking for a different kind of opportunity, we’d love to hear from you.
See you next time!
We hope you’ve enjoyed reading about what the MLP team has been up to. Look out for our next update coming soon.
